Vibra-Tech (the independent vibration monitors) and Texas Lehigh (the local cement plant) reported their findings on the effects of the cement plant’s blasting on the Amberwood community.

The condensed version of their presentation is that yes we can hear & feel the vibrations from their detonations and excavations but it’s not strong enough to be doing any damage to our houses.

These findings were met with much disbelief and skepticism by many of the community members present. Vibra-Tech will be doing another round of monitoring. If you would like more information about being included in the next round of seismic monitoring please contact Ray Bryant.

The slightly longer, more scientific version (taken from Vibra-Tech’s presentation) can be read below or by clicking “Read More”.

If you spend as much time on the interweb as I do, then you will probably appreciate this week’s cool site. One of the best ways to communicate with people on the interweb is with chat. Typically a chat interface if very boring and sometimes cumbersome. The Yahoo! chat client is probably the most used desktop program around, while Google Chat offered through G-Mail just absolutely rocks for web-based chatter. Unfortunately, they both suffer a common interface problem: all you see is text, emoticons, and boxes. People don’t naturally chat through little boxes filled with nothing but text. That’s just not good. You would think someone could push the capabilities of interweb technologies and give us something better. Well finally someone has. Check out this site and let me know what you think:
