Apparently Monarch have had some very recent problems with the water lines and apparently somehow got dirt/sediment into the water lines.

If you are one of the houses who did not receive a call from them, the gist of it is to let your water run outside on the hose first until the line clears. Then, it should be fine to use the house water. (Or rather, as fine as it ever were!)

It is my understanding that we do not need to boil the water before using it, just let it run until it’s clean-looking.

I will update this later if we get more information.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact Monarch:

  • Customer Service dept  Toll free: (866) 654-SWWC (7992)
  • or HQ at (512) 990-4322

I believe for most people’s phone plans for Kyle, that particular  (512) is a “local toll call” and requires a 1 before the area code.

As many of you may already be aware, we here in the community of Amberwood are currently having several issues with our water provider, Monarch. Here is the latest update on the situation:

  • The first Preliminary hearing was held on April 8, 2008 at the State Office of Administrative Hearing (SOAH). The Administrative Judge held a hearing to establish the jurisdiction of SOAH to hold a hearing for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regarding the appeal filed by Monarch Utilities I, LP for the increase in water and/or sewer rates in the cities of Kyle, Blue Mound and Southmayd, and to consider the request filed by Monarch to increase the water rates/tariffs and/or sewer rates/tariffs in several communities.
  • The Administrative Law Judges for the TCEQ in the Monarch proceeding held a hearing on August 8, 2008 to consider a motion that was filed by the Executive Director requesting the Administrative Law Judges to set interim rate for water and sewer. It was recommended that the City of Kyle should not be subject to this particular motion because presently Kyle Monarch customers have not experienced an increase at this time. Other cities under TCEQ have already experienced an increase. Given this, if there is a rate increase Kyle will then be subject to a first time increase.
  • Several weeks later the motion to implement a interim rate increase was denied.
  • The judges later entered an order to set mediation with a SOAH mediator on October 2, 2008, with the possibility of going into Oct. 3. The various parties were in agreement with this timeframe and with a mediation. Because of conflicting schedule this mediation hearing has been rescheduled between now and end of November 2008.
  • We were also advised by our rate consultant that Southwest Water Company (the parent of Monarch) flew in the Director of Regulatory Affairs, and according to our rate consultant, “she seemed very interested in the Cities issues and indicated her desire to have an open dialogue with us in an attempt to settle this thing.
