One-way IH-35 frontage roads from San Marcos to Kyle beginning NEXT weekend, June 28. June 20, 2014 I-35 FRONTAGE ROAD TO BECOME ONE-WAY BETWEEN SAN MARCOS, KYLE AUSTIN – Next weekend, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin changing the direction of the two-way frontage roads on Interstate 35 into one-way frontage roads between San Marcos and Kyle, from RM 150 (Center Street) and Yarrington Road, a distance of approximately 2.9 miles. On Saturday, June 28 at 8 p.m., work will begin on the northbound frontage road. Once work in the northbound direction is complete, crews will proceed to convert the southbound frontage road. The change will involve re-striping and placing additional signs along I-35 to alert and direct motorists to the new, one-way condition. It is expected that the conversion of the frontage roads will be complete by Sunday, weather permitting. “This is a very important safety project,” said Ben Engelhardt, area engineer for TxDOT’s South Travis Area Office. “I-35 is the transportation backbone for the region and by switching these high-volume frontage roads to one-way, we hope to improve traffic movements in the area and ensure our system is as safe as possible.” The I-35 frontage road conversions are part of a larger, $12.2 million project. Once complete, the existing Yarrington Road bridge overpass will be replaced and turnaround bridges in both the northbound and southbound direction will be installed. The contractor for the 20-month long project is OHL USA, Inc. For media inquiries, contact Kelli Reyna at kelli.reyna@txdot.gov or (512) 832-7060.  Texas Department of TransportationThe Texas Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining 80,000 miles of road and for supporting aviation, rail, and public transportation across the state.
